Objective: To investigate the correlation between 16-slice CT multi-stage target dynamic enhancement imaging features and tumor microvascular density (MVD) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in solitary pulmonary nodules(SPN) and to search a non-insulting,shortcut,repeatable practice method in living body to evaluate the tumor angiogenesis from imageology angle throug performing 16-slice CT multi-stage target dynamic enhancement of patients with SPN and obtaining microvessel densities (MVD) and VEGF expression.Methods: forty - eight patients with SPN underwent multi-slice target dynamic contrast enhanced serial CT. nonionic contrast material was administrated via the antecabital vein at a rate of 3 ml/s by using an autoinjector. Precontrast and postcontrast attenuation on every scan was recorded .The quantitative parameters(peak attenuation ,ratio of peak attenuation of the SPN to that of the aorta, Time-density curve (T-DC) )of blood flow pattern were compared with microvessel densities (MVD)and VEGF expression by immunohistochemistry.Results: peak attenuation of malignant [(38.29±13.21)HU] and inflammatory [(40.98±6.14HU)SPN were significantly higher than that of benign[(8.88±4.17)HU]SPN(X2=12.76,21.00,P<0.001);SPN-to-aorta ratios in malignant and inflammatory SPN were significantly higher than that in benight SPN ( X2 = 12.76,15.31 , P<0.001 ) .No statistically significant differences in the peak attenuation and SPN-to-aorta ratio were found between malignant and inflammatory SPN(P>0.05).Precontrast density of inflammatory SPN was lower than that of malignant SPN(F=10.39,P<0.001).The VEGF positiv expression were found in 26 malignant SPN and 2 benign SPN.the average value of MVD in malignant(36.88±4.94) was higher than that of benig(7.33±2.94) and inflammatory(28.31±12.57) SPN ( F = 110.08 , P<0.001 ) .There were statistically significant correlations between CT dynamic contrast enhanced parameters and MVD,respectivly.Conclusion: 1. MVD and VEGF are important indexes reflecting tumor angiogenesis ,they have close correlation with growth of tumor. 2. SPN microvessel densities (MVD)and VEGF expression is the pathophysiology founation of imageology which is about dynamic contrast enhanced imaging . There were statistically significant correlations between CT dynamic contrast enhanced parameters and MVD,respectivly. CT dynamic contrast enhanced imaging can fairly exactly inflect tumor angiogenesis in living body. This is of utilitarian clinical significance to evaluation of therapy against tumor angio -genesis.
