Part 1 Expression of scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI) in gallbladder epithelium of patients with cholesterol gallstoneObjective To investigate the expression and distribution of SR-BI in the mucosa of gallbladder in patients with cholesterol gallstone, and analyze their relationship. Methods The specimens of twenty-two patients with cholesterol gallstone and thirteen controls were studied by immunohistochemical and western blot methods to detect the SR-BI protein expression. Results SR-BI was expressed in the apical domain of gallbladder epithelial cells. The expression of SR-BI in cholesterol gallstone patients was decreased compared with that in the controls. There was significant difference between them (P﹤0.01).Conclusion The expression of SR-BI protein is decreased in cholesterol gallstone patients, indicating that SR-BI may have some effects on the pathogenesis of cholesterol gallstone. Part 2 Expression of scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI) in gallbladder epithelium of patients with cholesterolosisObjective To investigate the expression and distribution of SR-BI in the mucosa of gallbladder in patients with cholesterolosis, and analyze their relationship. Methods The specimens of fifteen patients with cholesterolosis and thirteen controls were studied by immunohistochemical and western blot methods to detect the SR-BI protein expression. Results SR-BI was expressed in the apical domain of gallbladder epithelial cells. The expression of SR-BI in cholesterolosis patients was decreased compared with that in the controls. There was significant difference between them (P﹤0.01).Conclusion The expression of SR-BI protein is decreased in cholesterolosis patients, indicating that SR-BI may have some effects on the pathogenesis of supersaturated gallbladder cholesterol in cholesterolosis.
