Holmium Laser Treatment Of Superficial Bladder Tumors After Injection With Distilled Water Under Bladder Mucous

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of holmium laser resection for superficial bladder tumor after injection with distilled water under bladder mucous.Methods From November 2004 to April 2007,a total of 22 cases including 17 males and 5 females with superficial bladder turnout at clinical stage T_a toT₁ and gradeâ… toâ…¡were involved in this study.All patients were injected by distilled water under bladder mucous membrane before holmium laser resection transurethrally.The age of patients ranged from 17 to 82 years,mean 66 years.Twelve patients had only one focus,but ten had 2 or 3.The diameter of tumours ranged from 0.3 to 2 centimeter.21 patients were diagnosied at frst time,but 1 was recurrence after TURBt.Results Operating time ranged form 25 to 45 min,side effects such as uncontrollable bleeding and perforation of bladder were not found.22 cases were followed up from 3 to 28 months and tumor recurrence at original position was not found in all cases.Conclusion To superficial bladder tumors,Holmium laser resection after injection with distilled water under bladder mucous membrane is a safe,effective and simple method.
