PrefaceCytokines are proteins secreted by many cells.They can regulate many biological activities,and play an immune regulating role in anti-infection,tumor,auto allergic disease,graft rejection and hematopoietic system diseases.IL-17 and IL-25 are newly discovered cytokines,and both of them belong to IL-17 family.They can also called IL-17A and IL-17E.IL-17 family is typically proinflammatory.IL-17 mainly relates to recruitment of leukocyte in mucosa immune disease,IL-25 induces the production of TH2 cytokine and eosinophil,both of them has a role of immune regulation function. We have observed the changes of IL-17 and IL-25 levels in sera from patients with ulcerative colitis and peptic ulcer,so as to further understand the relations of the generation and development between IL-17 and IL-25 levels and ulcerative colitis and peptic ulcerMaterials and MethodsThe level of IL-17 and IL-25 in plasma were detected by enzye-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)in patients with ulcerative colitis and peptic ulcer,and healthy person.ResultCompared with healthy person,the level of IL-17 in the sera of patients with ulcerative colitis has obvious statistical significance,but IL-17 in patients with peptic ulcer have no statistical significance,the level of IL-25 in both has statistical difference. Ulcerative colitis has slight,moderate and serious types,compared with each other,the slight and the moderate types have no difference,the moderate and the serious,the slight and the serious both have significant difference.The level of IL-17 in patients with single duodenal ulcer is higher than in healthy person,compared with healthy person,complex ulcer has no statistical significance,the level of IL-25 has significant difference in both patients with ulcerative colitis and the patients with peptic ulcer.DiscussionUlcerative colitis and peptic ulcer are inflammatory reactions when mucosa of stomach and intestines are damaged and immune system in vivo is activated.It is generally considered that it may relate to infection,heredity,environment,immunity and so on.Now immune factor is very important among these.IL-17 and IL-25 are recently discovered cytokines,and both of them belong to IL-17 family,that is IL-17A and IL-17E.Data indicated that IL-17 mainly relate to recruitment leukocyte in immune mucosa,IL-25 induce TH2 cytokine and eosinophil to produce,both of which have the role of immune regulation.Conclusion indicated that both IL-17 and IL-25 participate in the inflammatory procedure of immune mucosa.The levels of IL-25 and IL-17 were significantly increased in patients of serious type,so the level change of IL-25 and IL-17 may relate to the degree of inflammatory reactions.The level of IL-25 was significantly higher than IL-17 in patients with complex ulcer of stomach intestines,so the level change of IL-25 may better reflect the degree of inflammatory reaction and stomach and intestine tissue damaged.ConclusionBoth IL-17 and IL-25 participate in the inflammatory procedure of ulcerative colitis and peptic ulcer,and their levels may relate to the degree of inflammatory reaction,the change of IL-25 level may better reflect the degree of inflammatory reaction and tissue damaged in immune mucosa of stomach and intestine.
