[Objective]Our evaluation demonstrates features from clinical evaluations of both traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine. According to the international scale developed by GM Methodology, we develop the scale of the quality of life for nasopharyngeal carcinoma and evaluate it.[Methods]First of all, with reference to the internationally recognized core cancer patients Scale - EORTC QLQ-C30 and advisory of NPC clinical workers and nasopharyngeal cancer patients, we received 92 items. A 49-item pool is formed after careful grouping and deleting the irrelevant or repeating items. Our tool box contains discrete trends method, the method of correlation coefficient, Stepwise regression analysis and Analysis of distinction. The final scale consists of 30 items, by using the four statistical methods .Then we give correlation analysis to the various dimensions, including QOL of body functions(BO), social activities(SO), spirit and psychology(SP), Classification of clinical symptoms from the point of view of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) , symptom and adverse reaction (SA) and quality of life (QOL) with the new scale score ,and to the items of classification of clinical symptoms from the point of view of Traditional Chinese medicine with the dimension. Finally, we evaluate the new scale by utilizing the clinical data. The main focuses of our assessment are validity, reliability and responsiveness with respect to the clinical data.[Results]The content of the new Scale: There are six dimensions in this scale. The score of the total scale correlates with those of the dimensions score we mention above. Their correlation coefficients are all more than 0. 5(p = 0. 000) : 0. 738,0. 509,0.513,0.825,0.702,0. 570. In addition to ME23,ME24, all the items of classification of clinical symptoms from the point of view Traditional Chinese medicine in this scale correlate to the dimension , and their correlation coefficients have the significance difference. The examination of the new Scale: validity: criterion correlation validity r=0.939 (P=0.000) ; reliability: test-retest reliability r=0. 766 (P= 0. 000) and split-half reliability R =0.817; responsiveness : the traditional test: cases of Traditional Chinese Medicine t =-17.206 (P=0.000) , cases of the control group t =-15.945 (P= 0. 000); the total margin of the quality of life before the treatment t=1. 550 (P=0. 267>0. 05) ; the total margin of the quality of life after the treatment t =-2. 295 (P=0. 027<0.05) ; the total margin of the quality of life between around the treatment t =2. 695 (P=0. 010<0. 05) , changes Rate t =2.667 (P=0. 011<0. 05) . The stability of this scale is good and this scale may reflect to a certain extent the quality of life and it would have the ability to reflect clinical changes.[Conclusions]This research covers these six areas: QOL of body functions, social activities, clinical psychiatry, side effects, quality of life and classification of clinical symptoms from the point of view of Chinese medicine. The underlying study of the scale is scientific in nature and also showing certain Chinese medicine characteristics. The innovative and outstanding scale can reflect the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in the process of quality of life conditions. From the research on the validity, reliability and responsiveness of the new scale for appraisal, we obtain this scale to conform to the technical requirements of quality of life scale. The scale is ready to be tested in the clinical research. With the help of this scale, we hope the improvement of nasopharyngeal cancer method of treatment and medicine screening, as well as providing some references to development of the scale of the quality of life for other diseases of the Chinese medicine characteristic.
