Objective: Optimization of combining EEG, SLSEP and TCD techniques to diagnose brain deathMethods: One hundred eleven patients (69 male, 42 female) from the major hospitals of Zhejiang province were examined with portable EEG, SLSEP and TCD devices. Re-examinations occurred≤12 hrs later. Results: The first examinations revealed that combining SLSEP and EEG led to more sensitive diagnoses than SLSEP and TCD. Reexamination confirmed this but also revealed that the combination of TCD and EEG was the most sensitive. Conclusion: Not only is using multiple techniques to diagnose brain death superior to using only one method, specific combinations of techniques are better than other combinations.
