As the dried root of Salvia Miltiorrhiza Bge., Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza (RSM) is a commonly-used Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for removing blood stasis, relieving pain, promoting blood circulation, tranquilizing mind and relieving vexation. Developing a method for the determination of pesticide residues and detecting pesticide residues in Radix Salviae Mitiorrhiza ,which originated from different provinces of china, is extraordinarily essential to ensure the medicine safety and control quality of Radix Salviae Mitiorrhiza.Seventy-two batches of samples of RSM were collected from different habitats (Shanxi,Hebei,Anhui,Henan,Sichuan,Chongqing and Zhejiang province/city) in order to research the level of pesticide residues. A new method for detecting 14 organochloride pesticides and 6 organophosphorus pesticides in Radix Salviae Mitiorrhiza was developed. The detection was using the technology of SIM-GC-MS. Pesticides were positively confirmed by retention time and ion ratios.The quantities of pesticide residues were calculated by external standard method. Organochloride pesticides were extracted with petroleum ether using ultrasonic extraction,then cleaned up by a column packed with florisil.The capillary column was DB-35MS and samples were separated by the temperature program. The average recoveries and RSD ranged from 75.4%~106.3% and 3.5%~8.8% respectively,at three spiked mixed organochlorine pesticede levels. Organophosphorus pesticides were extracted by ultrasonication in ice bath. After cleaned by column packed with charcoal,the compounds were separated by capillary column HB-5MS. The average recoveries and RSD ranged from 84.66%~102.48% and 2.3%~6.8% at three different level of concentrations,respectively. The method is easy in operation,accurate in determining the quality and has good sensitivity and repeatability.The research results show that organochloride pesticides of Radix Salviae Mitiorrhiza was universal.All of 14 organochloride pesticide residues were detected in different levels and organophosphorus pesticides of Radix Salviae Mitiorrhiza were not detected.
