Research On The Theory Of "Coordinating Liver And Spleen" Of Zhang Zhong-jing

Purpose:Incoordination between the liver and spleen is the frequent clinical pathogenesis.Zhang Zhong-jing discussed this question particularly in his contributions 'Shanghan Lun'(Treatise on Febrile Diseases Caused by Cold) and 'Jingui Yaolue'(The Prescription in Golden Cabinet).His academic standpoint has been influencing the later generations.But there are few researches on the theory of "coordinating liver and spleen" now,most of them paid close attention to summarizing the experiences of the famous doctors of TCM.In this thesis the valid therapeutic and therapeutics were summarized, based on the theories of 'Shanghan Lun','JinguiYaolue','Nei-jing', 'Nan-jing' and the academic standpoints of the doctors of Song,Yuan,Ming and Qing periods,through dicerning the physiological functions and pathology of the liver and gallbladder,the spleen and stomach.I hope this study helpful for the clinical practice.Method:First,I try to make sure the definition of coordinating liver and spleen, in order to identifymy study' s circumscription.Second,make sure the physiological functions and pathology of the liver,the gallbladder,the spleen and the stomach.Third,analyze and summarize the clauses in Shanghan and Jingui,analyze the differences between different syndromes,to induce the Corresponding therapeutics.Then,discuss the doctors of Song,Yuan,Ming and Qing periods,make sure that what did they do to develop this theory.At last, summarize the significance of this theory.Conclusion:To harmonize Yin and Yang is the purpose of coordinating liver and spleen. There are eight basic methods:①dispersing the stagnation of liver-QI②elimination of the hepatic heat③subduing the excessive liver-energy④supporting the hepatic blood⑤elimination of the cholic fire⑥warming the splenic yang⑦elimination of cold-dampness⑧eliminating fu-organ excess.All diagnosis and treatment are based on an overall analysis of the illness and the patient's condition.Sometimes the liver disease is treated at first, sometimes the spleen disease is treated at first,sometimes both of them are treated.One of these methods is used,or two of them are used together. Sometimes,one is used at first and another is used at last.According to this theory,there are many therapeutics here,for example,prescription and acupuncture.The later doctors developed Zhang Zhong-jing' s theory,their additions included:supporting the fluid in stomach and liver;harmonizing the activities of qi;harmonizing and supporting qi and xue.So that this theory is more useful now.
