Objective:To investigae the change of hippocamps function of heroin addicts, and approach the hippocamps effect of heroin addicts, addiction memory and relaps. Methods:To establish four groups, methadone maintenance treatment(MMT)without loss group(MMT1 group),MMT with loss group(MMT2 group),withdraw group and control group.MMT groups and withdraw group are requested to fill up a questionnaire.Four groups arc examined,by conventional MRI first to eliminate encranial diseases, then every one execute twice hydrogen 1(1H)magnetic resonance (MR)spectroscopy in different conditions, include quiescent condition and exposed to drug related cue.Results:1.8 people from MMT groups and withdraw group are detected punctiform or fragmentized long T2 processes on frontal lobe and/or parietal lobe by conventional MRI.Their years of ages are 35~44,average 39.25.2.Before stimulation, the subjective drug craving of MMT2 group are the most intense, the withdraw group are opposite. After exposed to drug related cue,the difference of subjective drug craving among three groups is similar to before. The subjective drug craving of withdraw group and MMT1 group are lower after exposed to drug related cue than before(P<0.05),but MMT2 group have not signification changes(P>0.05).3.The values of NAA/Cr and Glx/Cr of the four groups arrenged from large to small are control group, withdraw group,MMT2 group and MMT1 group. But the discrepancy among four groups is not signification(P>0.05).The values of Cho/Cr are not signification discrepancy among four groups(P>0.05).4.The values of Glx/Cr of control group do not change after exposed to drug related cue comparing with before. The values of Glx/Cr of withdraw group are higher after exposed to drug related cue than before, but the discrepancy is not signification(P>0.05).The values of Glx/Cr of MMT1 and MMT2 group are higher after exposed to drug related cue than before, and the discrepancy is signification(P<0.05),but their extent of elevation is similar.Conclusions:1.The values of NAA/Cr of the four groups arranged from large to small are control group, withdraw group,MMT2 group and MMT1 group in quiescent condition. We can conclude that hippocamp neurons of heroin addicts are damaged. The values of NAA/Cr of withdraw group are higher than MMT group, but lower than control group. We suppose that hippocamp neurons recover partly after heroin withdrawal, but they can not recover completely.2.The values of Glx/Cr of four groups are changed differently after exposed drug related cue,so we presume the cue impacts MMT groups most deeply among four groups, and causes to hippocamp neurons be activated and release neurotransmitters, glumatic acid.We suppose hippocamp and addiction memory act an important role in dependence of heroin and relapse.3.Some people from MMT groups and withdraw group are detected long T2 processes on frontal lobe and/or parietal lobe by conventional MRI.We need more study to understand their pathological changes.
