Objective To review and analyze the short intermediate term curative effect in patients after Percutanueous Balloon Kyphoplasty. Methods From 2002 to 2007,there were 108 cases who have an operation because of Pathologic Vertebral Compression Fractures in the department of orthopedics of the First Affiliated of Soochow University.Adopting questionnaire investigating way to collect the data of evaluating curative effect by telephone, letter and out-patient callback. According to the follow-up time, all patients were divided into two groups, group A(4~24 months),group B t (24~56 months),to analyze the clinical effect according to the assessment scale proposed by Even Lin Liefa and Japanese Orthorpeadic Assocition(JOA),Visual analogue scales(VAS),Oswsetry Disability Indexs (ODI),SF-36 and radiographic. Investigatings were learned by statistics. Something was down to compare the improvement rate of the patients and radiographic with different follow-up group, at same time, analyzing association of the lost rate of anterior of vertebral body and the pain grade of VAS,analyzing association of the recovery rate of anterior portion of vertebral body and the improvement of the pain grade of VAS,analyzing related factors of surgical. Results 1 According to the assessment scale proposed by Even Lin Liefa, the total good rate of the 53 cases was 81.13%,the good rate of the group A and the group B was respectively 87.50%,76.19%, there was no statistical difference between the group A and the group B (P<0.05).2 In two gruops, there was statistical difference between the pre-operative and post-operative of the height of anterior and middle portion of the vertebral body (P<0.01),there was no statistical difference between the post-operative and last follow-up of the height of anterior and middle portion of the vertebral body(P>0.05),there was no statistical difference between the group A and the group B.3 In two gruops , there was statistical difference between the pre-operative and post-operative of the scores of VAS, JOA and ODI (P<0.01), here was no statistical difference between the post-operative and last follow-up of the scores of VAS, JOA and ODI (P>0.05), there was no statistical difference between the group A and the group B.4 The daily life assessments of all follow-up, including General health, Energy, psychological health, pain, Social functioning, physical functioning, were improved significantly at last follow-up (P<0.01). And there was no correlation between last follow-up and pre-operation on physical health and emotional problems(P>0.05)..5 The lost rate of anterior portion of vertebral body were associated with the pain grade of VAS.There was no correlation between vertebral body height recovered rate and improvement of VAS.6 Analysis of surgical related factors: the univariable Fisher's exact probabilities analysis displayed body mass index, chronic diseases, history of steroid drug, history of exercise for back muscle, history of antiosteoporotic drug and were the correlated factors of surgical outcomes. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that chronic diseases(P=0.032<0.05) and history of steroid drug(P=0.35<0.05) were the negtive factors of surgical outcomes while history of exercise for back muscle(P=0.41<0.05), history of antiosteoporotic drug(P=0.21<0.05) were the positive factors of surgical outcomes.7 There were 6 cases of bone cement leakage in the operation; 4 cases of refracture of vertebral bodies at last follow-up.vertebral compression fracture in elderly.conclution:1 Percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty is a safe, effective and minimal invasive technique in treatment.2 In the short intermediate follow-up, The clinical curative effect is satisfied.
