Objective To evaluate WB-DWI application in multiple osseous and lymphaden malignant tumor.Materials and Methods WB-DWI was performed on 53 patients (twenty-one male, thirty-two female, 28-78years, mean age 53.9 years) from April 2007 to February 2008 and 10 healthy volunteers without a history of disease of tumor (five male, five female, 28-63 years, mean age 43.6 years) with GE 1.5T HD echo MR/I. 53 cases with bioptically or follow-uped proved contained 41 bone metastasis, 6 myeloma,6 lymphoma. ECT was performed in 38 patients (35 bone metastasis,3 myeloma) with GE Medical systems,99mTc-MDP, 25mci. Using WB-DWI for detecting bone metastasis and compare it with that of ECT. The statistic method is SPSS 12.0 software.Written informed consent was obtained from all participants .Results1. In 10 healthy volunteers,WB-DWI, fat, muscle, vessels and most organs appear while gray. Skeleton showed medium or slightly lower signal. Some glandular organ , nerve root, spinal cord, kidneys, eyeball showed slightly lower signal intensity. Some normal lymphaden showed slightly lower signal. Spleen and testicle showed lower signal .Bladder and cholecyst showed lower signal because of"T2 through".2. Bone metastasis were depicted as dark gray areas(high signal intensity in the DW images). Concordance between WB-DWI and ECT was seen in 4 cases. Lesions were identified only by ECT , located in rib sternum, scapula, skull and limbs. Lesions were identified only by WB-DWI, located in the spine and bone of basin, P<0.05.3. WB-DWI was superior to ECT for the presence of myeloma, lesions showed well-distributed and suffusion. In 3 cases found punctiform destruction on skull.4. 39 cases found lymphaden metastasis. 6 lymphoma showed dark signal, marrow were not involved . Lymphaden metastasis and lymphoma all showed dark gray areas.Conclusion1. WB-DWI was a sensitive method for screening bone lesions, especially the vertebral body .2. WB-DWI was valuable for myeloma in offering involvement of tumor and observing destruction of bone.3. Not only finding osseous lesions,WB-DWI could also displayed lymphaden metastasis and lymphoma to guide Staging and treatment evaluation.
