Objective To investigate the value of ultrasound changes of breast cancer in evaluation of therapeutic effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy.Methods The primary lesions and axillary lymph nodes of 49 patients with breast cancer were examined by color doppler ultrasound before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.All subjects lay on their back and were observed with direct contact.All of the sonographical examinations were performed with the 5.0~12.0 MHz liner array probe. The primary lesion was first scanned in 2-Dimentional sonography examination,including its size,shape,edge,surrounding halo,internal echo and rear echo.Then,the color flow which internal and peripheral of the mass was observed with Color Doppler Flow Imaging(CDFI)and then with Color Doppler Energy(CDE).Then,the axillary lymph nodes were examined,including its size,shape,internal echo and blood.Results After treatment,ultrasonographic features of primary tumor were found change in largely proportion,which were reducing in volume, morphology irregularity,existence of surrounding halo,distinct boundary, increasing of internal echoes,rear echo,decreasing of color Doppler signals and reducing of value of Peak Systolic Velocity and RI.Changes of axillary metastasis lymph nodes were found,such as reducing in volume, decreasing of color Doppler signals.Conclusion The features of color Doppler ultrasound of primary lesion and axillary lymph nodes changed significantly after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.Ultrasonography provides an convenient effective and non- invasive method for observing the curative effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
