A Clinical Study On The Effect Of Fumigation With Lower Limb Lotion After Arthroscopic Surgery For Knee Joint Osteoarthritis

Objective:To evaluate the efficiency and safety of lower limb lotion fumigating after Arthroscopic Surgery to the Knee Joint Osteoarthritis(OA) by analyzing the changes of the Lysholm scores and levels of NO in knee joint fluid of pre- and post- therapy,which can provide theory basis and guide to the clinical treatment of lower limb lotion.Method:90 cases of Knee Joint OA were collected from the orthopaedics department of The People's Hospital affiliated to FCTCM from Sep,2005 to Oct,2007.They were randomly divided into 3 groups after Arthroscopic Surgery:treatment group,warm water group,and the Control group,each group included 30 cases.One week later after stitches were taken out, they started being fumigated,altogether for three weeks.Treatment group were fumigated with lower limb lotion.Warm water group were fumigated with water.Control group were treated with nothing,we observed and analyzed all patients by the statistics their Lysholm scores and levels of NO in knee joint fluid of pre- and post-therapy.Result:.1.The Lysholm scores and levels of NO in knee joint fluid of three groups had been improved obviously after Arthroscopic Surgery.One month later,three groups' Lysholm scores had increased obviously,and were steady in the following six months.2.One month later,the comparison of Lysholm scores inside the respective groups as follows:The treatment group had greatly significant difference(P＜0.01),the warm water group and the Control group had significant difference(P＜0.05).The comparison between the respective groups as follows:the treatment group had very significant difference(P＜0.01) to the Control group,the treatment group had significant difference(P＜0.05) to the warm water group,and the warm water group had significant difference(P＜0.05) to the Control group.3.One month later,the comparison of levels of NO in knee joint fluid inside the respective groups as follows:The treatment group had greatly significant difference(P＜0.01),but the warm water group and the Control group had no significant difference(P＞0.05).The comparison between the respective groups as follows:the treatment group had significant difference(P＜0.05) to the warm water group or the Control group,but the warm water group had no significant difference(P＞0.05) to the Control group.4.There was no severiously noxious and side effects in all cases. Conclusions:1.Arthroscopic Surgery could obviously improve the Knee Joint OA patient's symptoms and physical signs and decrease NO levels in the liquid of knee joint.2.Arthroscopic Surgery cooperated with the fumigation of lower limb lotion,not only had warm function,but also had traditional Chinese medicine curative effect,could further improve the Knee Joint OA patient's symptoms and physical signs,decrease NO levels,and delay the progression.3.The fumigation of lower limb lotion to the Knee Joint OA was safe and effective,it worthy of popularizing and applying clinically.
