Partâ… the evaluation of the Treatments for malignant tumors in larynx and hypopharynxObjective: To evaluate the effect of different treatments for malignant tumors in larynx and hypopharynx patients in our department. Methods: Analyze the clinical data of 87 patients of malignant tumors in larynx and hypopharynx who were treated in our department, and enquire some of the patients by telephone. Results: In 87 patients, 73 are of laryngeal malignant tumors. 14 are of hypopharyngeal carcinomas. Most of them are squamous cell carcinomas and of low (44.05%) or middle (41.67%) grade of histological differentiation. Among the patients who have answered my enquiry, 28 are alive. 11 are died. The causes of death: 1 is primary cancer, 1 is primary cancer recrudesce after 8-months radiotherapy and chemotherapy, 3 are lymph node metastasis, 4 are far metastasis, 1 is other disease. 1 is unknown. In the patients alive. 20 have taken the total larynectomy. Among them. 10 are aphonia, 4 are dysphonia. Conclusion: (l)The difference of life quality between the patients taken total larynectomy and other treatments (partial larynectomy, radiotherapy, etc.) is phonation. (2) The main causes of death are lymph node metastasis and far metastasis.Partâ…¡The significance of the expression of gene p63 in laryngeal squamous cell carcinomaObjective: To search the expression of gene p63 in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and its biological significance. Methods: Analyze the expression of gene p63 in 30 cases of laryngeal carcinomas by immunohistochemical method, contrast with 16 cases of tissues near the carcinomas and 4 cases of vocal cord polyp mucosa. Results: (1) P63 protein mainly expresses in nucleus. (2) The positive rates of expression of p63 in laryngeal carcinoma, tissues near the carcinomas and vocal cord polyp mucosa are 87.50%, 18.75% and 0%. (3) The expression of p63 protein is not correlated with age, sex, tumor position, clinic stage and lymph node metastasis. There is significant statistical value in histological differentiation, the expression in squamous cell carcinomas with poor histological differentiation is stronger than highly differentiated ones. Conclusion: (1) The positive rates of expression of p63 in normal mucosa. tissues near the carcinomas and laryngeal carcinoma are escalated, indicate that it over-expresses in LSCC and is an early event of LSCC. (2) The expression of p63 in squamous cell carcinomas with poor histological differentiation is stronger , indicate that it is associated with the malignancy of LSCC. (3 ) The expression of p63 protein is not correlated with age, sex, tumor position, clinic stage and lymph node metastasis, indicate that it has no change in the progress of LSCC. (4) It does not express in cellule carcinomas, indicate that it selectively expresses in squamous cells.
