Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the role and correlations of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1(sFlt-1),vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF),placental growth factor (PLGF) in maternal serum in the fetal growth restriction. We investigate the relations of these factors and the incidence of the fetal growth restriction. Methods: The subjects are divided into two groups: In 27 women with isolated FGR (FGR group), 21 women with the normal third trimester (normal group). At 30-32 weeks and 38-40 weeks of peripheral venous blood taken from pregnant women, we measured VEGF,PLGF,sFlt-1levels which in the maternal blood by means of enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results: 1.Maternal VEGF levels is lower in women with FGR than in those with normal group(p<0.05). 2. Maternal PLGF levels is lower in women with FGR than in those with normal group(p<0.05). 3. Maternal sFlt-1 levels is higher in women with FGR than in those with normal group(p<0.05). 4. VEGF and PLGF concentration show a downward trend with the increasing gestational age in FGR group(p<0.01), sFlt-1 concentration show a upward trend with increasing gestational age in FGR group(p<0.01). 5. There is the positive correlation between VEGF and PLGF in FGR group(p<0.01), there is the negative correlation between VEGF and sFlt-1 in FGR group(p<0.01), there is the negative correlation between PLGF and sFlt-1 in FGR group(p<0.01). 6. sFlt-1/VEGF,sFlt-1/PLGF is higher in FGR group than in normal group(p<0.01). 7. There is the positively correlation between maternal serum VEGF,PLGF and fetal birth weight(p<0.01), there is the negative correlation between sFlt-1 and fetal birth weight(p<0.05). 8. There is lower maternal serum VEGF,PLGF in neonatal asphyxia than not happen neonatal asphyxia in FGR group(p<0.01), there is higher maternal serum sFlt-1 in neonatal asphyxia than not happen neonatal asphyxia in FGR group(p<0.01).Conclusions: The reduce of VEGF,PLGF concentration and the increase of sFlt-1 concentration in maternal serum may have the relationship with the incidence of fetal growth restriction; The changes of sFlt-1/VEGF,sFlt-1/PLGF is correlated with FGR; The reduce of VEGF and PLGF,the increase of sFlt-1 are associated with neonatal asphyxia. It can be provided an important basis for FGR prediction to detect pregnancy through VEGF,PLGF,sFlt-1.
