Objective To detect the changes of soluble P-selectin and L-selectin in the serum and tissue homogenate of patients with nasal polyps and to discuss the pathogenesis and significance of P-selectin and L-selectin in nasal polyps. Methods Detect the content changes of P-selectin and L-selectin were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) and radio immuno assay (RIA) in the serum and tissue homogenate of 19 cases with sinusitis and nasal polyps (Group A),19 cases with allergic rhinitis and nasal polys(Group B),18 cases with recurrent nasal polyps(Group C) and 22 cases healthy control(Group D)(deviation of nasal septum leading to the compensatory hypertrophy in the back end of inferior turbinate).Results①The content of P-selectin in the serum and tissue homogenate of three groups(Group A,B,C) were significantly higher than the control group(Group D),(P<0.05),Group B and Group C were higher than Group A,(P<0.05). P-selectin did not show statistical significance between Group B and Group C,(P>0.05).②The content of L-selectin in the serum and tissue homogenate of three groups (Group A,B,C) were significantly higher than the control group(Group D),(P<0.05),the content of L-selectin in the serum and tissue homogenate in Group A,B,C did not show statistical significance,(P>0.05).Conclusion P-selectin and L-selectin may play a role in the pathogenesis of nasal polyps. The high expression of P-selectin may participate in infiltration of activation proliferation eosinophil and other inflammatory cells, which may play an important role in the formation of nasal polys. The expression of P-selectin may be related to recurrence of nasal polyps,P-selectin is expected as an important biological target in recurrence of nasal polyps. The effect of L-selectin in the pathogenesis of nasal polyps and relation between L-selectin and the recurrence of nasal polyps is expected for further study in the future.
