Retrospective Analysis Of 211 Cases Of Patients With Ulcerative Colitis In Fujian Province, China

Objective: To evaluate the clinical characteristic and treatments of patients with ulcerative colitis(UC).Methods: Inpatients with UC were collected at the Hospital of from January 2000 to December 2008.Evaluation of the prevalence,clinical and pathological features and diagnosis was made.Results:The hospitalization for UC has been increased in recent years in the Hospital .The peak age was between 30 and 49 years.Among 211 UC cases,117 men,94 women,male/female ratio 1.24:1,mean age 41.7 yeas(range 4-79 years).The mean duration of the disease was 3.1 years.Main symptoms and signs included diarrhea(90.52%),bloody stool(82.46%)and abdominal pain.15 patiences had extraintestinal manifestations (EIM)in 211,Their major manifestations were adiposis hepatica ( 3.32 ) and arthritis ( 2.84% ) .Mild and moderate cases(79.62%) were remained dominant.Their course classfications were initial type(45.5%) and clornic relapse type(37.44%).Pathological change infringement rectum in 38 examples (18.01% ) ,rectum colon sigmoideum in 85 examples (40.28% ),left half colon in 44 examples(20.85%), entire colon in 40 examples ( 18.95% ),extensive colitis in 4 examples(1.90%).78 had autoantibody test, 31.8% P-ANCA is positive,platelet count had different levels of abnormal rate in laboratory, mostly among moderate to severe severity.Endoscopy were still the major diagnostic methods.Histological manifestations showed massive inflammatory cells infiltration in mucosa and submucosa, crypt abscess, erosion and ulceration. 207 cases received SASP or/and steroid therapy,4 cases (1.90%)were given immunosuppressan.201 cases(96.18% )turned for the better after treatment.Coclusion:The incidence of UC was increased during these years in Fujian Province.Features of UC cases were prevalent in middle age,short course of extra-intestinal manifestations and complications,Endoscopy and histological were still the major diagnostic methods. Most cases received SASP or / and steroid therapy , few cases were given immunosuppressan.Most cases turned for the better after treatment.
