Acute coronary syndromes are life-threatening disorders, and acute myocardial infarction complicated with cardiogenic shock (AMI-CS) is the leading cause of in-hospital death. For those patients the intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) can improves diastolic coronary blood flow, and reduces afterload and myocardial work. These physiologic effects are believed to lead to improve myocardial and organ recovery and then access to early revascularization.
