Gall-bladder wall thickening is often found in liver cirrhosis. The sonography B can Accurately detect gall-bladder wall thickness,it is usually abnormal for gall-bladder wall thickness≥3mm.The mechanism of gallbladder wall thickening in patients with cirrhosis is not entirely clear so far.We investigated the incidence of gall-bladder wall thickening between liver cirrhosis patients and normal control person and also analyze the gender, the breadth of portal vein, the level of ascites, prothrombin time,ALB concentration in serum,Child-Pugh grade,at the same time we reexam gall-bladder wall thickness for the patients of Child-Pugh B grade and Child-Pugh C grade after their symptom improvement and disappearance of ascites to understand the change after treatment and explore the mechanism and clinical significance of gallbladder wall thickening in patients with cirrhosis.Materials and Methods118 cases of patients with liver cirrhosis were collected from January 2006 to June 2008,excluding from patients with the diseases of gallbladders common bile duct, pancreas, heart and kidney.Sonography B exam these patients' gallbladder wall thickness.118 cases of patients were divided into groups of gall-bladder wall thickening and normal gallbladder wall according to the determination of the gallbladder wall thickness.163 cases of healthy persons were selected as control group, compared with the liver cirrhosis group. The difference of incidence of gallbladder wall thickening between these two groups were compared. At the same time, gallbladder wall thickening in cirrhotic group and non-thickening group were compared with gender, the width of portal vein, ascites, prothrombin time,ALB concentration in serum and Child-Pugh classification. At the same time gall-bladder wall thickness for the patients of Child-Pugh B grade and Child-Pugh C grade after their symptom improvement and disappearance of ascites was reexamed and their difference was also compared.ResultsOf all the patients with liver cirrhosis 80.51%had gallbladder wall thickening, which was significantly higher than normal control group(P < 0.01 ).ALB concentration in serum of gall-bladder wall thickening in cirrhotic group is lower than non-thickening group(P<0.05).The incidence rate of ascites, the width of portal vein, prothrombin time of gall-bladder wall thickening in cirrhotic group are higher than non-thickening group, but there is not significant difference in gender(P>0.05).The incidence of gallbladder wall thickening in Child-Pugh C grade is higher than Child-Pugh A grade(P<0.05).After the treatment gall-bladder wall thickeness of the patients with liver cirrhosis belonging to Child-Pugh B grade and Child-Pugh C grade was reduced than before the treatment(P<0.05). ConclusionMost liver cirrhosis patients have gall-bladder wall thickness, the percentage of gall-bladder wall thickness in patients with ascites is more higher than that of patients without ascites. The thickness of gall-bladder wall in liver cirrhosis has negative correlation with the width of portal vein.ALB concentration in serum, prothrombin time,Child-Pugh classification, moreover gall-bladder wall thickness can be lightened after symptom improvement. So there are many reasons for gall-bladder wall thickness in liver cirrhosis.
