Objective To investigate the relationship between Apa I Polymorphism of Vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene and bone mass in Mongol women of Inner Mongolia.Get the populations' allele frequencies distribution of the VDR Apa I polymorphism.25 -OHD3,1,25 -(OH)2D3 and serum Ca et.al level were measured by radioimmunoassay in different bone mineral density (BMD) groups. Methods The VDR Apa I genotype was determined by PCR -restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP) in 179 Mongol women, bone mineral density at the non -dominant forearm were measured using dual -energy X - ray absorptiometry(DEXA).25-OHD3,1,25 -(OH)2D3 and serum Ca et.al level were measured by radioimmunoassay.Resuits The allele frequencies of Apa I polymorphism were in Hardy- Weinberg equilibrium. Frequencies distribution of VDR Apa I genotype were aa:49.16%,Aa:41.34%and AA: 9.50%.Covariance analysis showed that no significant association between VDR Apa I genotype and BMD at the non - dominant forearm in all groups. There was no statistical significant between osteopenia group and normal bone mass group in genotype and allele genes.Serum 25 -OHD3,1,25 -(OH)2D3 level difference were not founded. Conclusions Among Mongol women in Inner Mongolia, there was no association between the Apa I Polymorphism of VDR gene and osteoporosis.Mongolian women(?) Frequencies distribution of VDR Apa I genotype is uniform with Chinese Han women(?).
