Objective:To find the relationship between carotid arterial intima-media thickness(IMT),C-reaction protein(CRP) and senile osteoporosis with different syndromes of traditional Chinese medicine preliminarily. Methods:To enroll the patients with senile osteoporosis, and divide them into two groups of syndrome of liver-kidney deficiency and syndrome of spleen-stomach qi-deficiency,and measure levels of each one's IMT,CRP against levels of the same indexes of peer-group of non-osteoporosis and bone mineral density(BMD) within two groups of senile osteoporosis. Then analyze the above measurements statistically.Results:74 patients of senile osteoporosis together with 55 peers of non- osteoporosis were recruited in the study. The levels of CRP and IMT in members of senile osteoporosis are higher than the ones of non- osteoporosis and CRPs in senile osteoporosis are higher than its index of the normal top range(all P<0.05).It was found that there was no statistical difference between groups with IMT>1.0mm and IMT<1.0mm of members of senile osteoporosis(P>0.05).And there were no statistical significances in comparing different sexes with senile osteoporosis in CRPs and IMTs(P>0.05).By dividing patients of senile osteoporosis into two groups of syndrome of liver-kidney deficiency and syndrome of spleen-stomach qi-deficiency,the former's IMTs are higher than the latter's(P<0.05),and BMDs in the former's are lower than the latter's(P<0.05),while there was no statistical difference between the two groups in CRP levels(P>0.05).Conclusion:There might be the common mechanisms of inflammation combining atherosclerosis with senile osteoporosis and syndromes of traditional Chinese medicine of senile osteoporosis may correlate with IMT,BMD,but there are no significant correlations between CRP and syndromes.
