Purpose: Investigating the expression of GLUT-1 and P63 in poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma and anaplastic carcinoma is to offer the theories basis for clinical diagnosis and treat of earlier carcinomas as well as gene diagnosis and treat of poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma and anaplastic thyroid carcinoma。Methods: Seventy-eight archival, routinely processed, formal in-fixed, paraffin-embedded surgical pathology specimens were examined. These included: 20 goiter thyroid tissues, 28 poorly differentiated thyroid carcinomas and 30 anaplastic carcinomas. GLUT-1and P63 expressions at protein level were detected by immunohistochemical technique in patients with poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma and anaplastic carcinoma. In Chi-square analysis their expression were associated with clinicopathologic characteristics.Result: Normal thyroid tissue cells were non-staining with GLUT-1 and P63 antiserum. The intensity of the expression of GLUT-1 and P63 were stronger compared to other subtypes (P<0.05). P63 in anaplastic carcinoma and poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma is 80%,86.7% respectively. And GLUT-1 in anaplastic carcinoma and poorly differentiated thyroid arcinoma s 57.1,.46.4% respectively. The expression of GLUT-1 and p63 has positive correlation(P<0.05).GLUT-1 and p63 expression were associated with stage, lymph node metastasis. Clinicopathologic characteristics(P<0.05).Conclusions: These data suggested that the expression of Glut1 and P63 may be closely related to the malignant transformation of poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma and anaplastic thyroid carcinoma. It is clear that GLUT1 and P63 are oncogene. In a word, GLUT-1 and P63 as the mark of tumors malignant transformation, partake in the generation, development, transformation, invading, transference in poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma and anaplastic thyroid carcinoma.
