Abstract: objective: To measure and analyse the clinical significance of serum bone specific alkaline phosphates (sBAP) in bone metabolism in Neoplastic Bone Disease. Methods: Subjects were divided into 2 groups. Group A is composed of 32 primary tumor patients without bone metastatic neoplasms proofed by X-ray or emission computer tomography(ECT). Group B is composed of 30 patients with bone metastasis proofed by X-ray or ECT. Measurement of sBAP was made by test kit of sBAP, while measurement of calcium and phosphorus concentration were made. Results: The sensitivity and specificity of sBAP to bone metastases was 66.67% and 96.88%. The sensitivity and specificity of sCa to bone metastases were 23.33% and 84.38%, and those of sP were 20% and 84.38%, respectively. The sensitivity of sBAP were significantly higher than those of sCa and sP (P< 0.05) .Conclusion: The serum levels of sBAP in cancer patients with bone metastases were significantly higher than those in other group. sBAP is a useful serum marker to diagnose bone metastases in cancer patients.
