This study is mainly about Carthamus tinctorius L. The volatile components of Carthamus tinctorius L were extracted by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) method at first. The remained materials which already extracted by SFE were further extracted by ultrasonic to obtain hydrosafflor yellow A (HSYA). Then, the extacts was purified by macroporous resin and silica gel column chromatography.During the research of extracting volatile components by SFE, the influencing factors, such as temperature, pressure and particle size were all investigated. The yield of volatile components was set as the index, and thus, the best extracting condition of SFE was definite. Simultaneously, GC-MS was used to detect the compositions of volatile components, 37 chemical compounds were identified from them. Not only octadecadienoic acid of high percentage was detected, even octadecatrienoic acid was reported amone them. It was the first time that octadecatrienoic acid was detected in Carthamus tinctorius L.The remained materials which already extracted by SFE were further extracted by ultrasonic to obtain hydrosafflor yellow A (HSYA). The high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) showed that, the yield of HSYA in the ultrasonic extractions was even a little higher than that of the medical materials which had not been extrcted by SFE. So, the comprehensive utilization of Carthamus tinctorius L became feasible.Next, the contents and the purity of HSYA were both assigned as the judging standard. On this base, the influencing factors of both ultrasonic extraction and macroporous resin processes were all reseached. And the purity of the eluents prepared by macroporous resin method was 14.68%.At last, the the eluents prepared by macroporous resin method was finally purified by silica gel column chromatography .The purity of the final product was 62.8%, and the yield was 32.4%. By this was, a cheap and fast method of producting HSYA within certain purity was established.
