Objective:It aims to investigate the relationship between lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS) and testosterone (T),sex hormone-binding globulin(SHBG), Follicle stimulating hormone(FSH), luteinizing hormone(LH).Further to explore the possible mechanisms.Method:A total of 1912 men in Fangcheng district of Guangxi province were enrolled in this study, they all went to medical checkup as usual and were asked to complete the questionnaire about international prostate symptom score (IPSS). Spearman rank correlation analysis and age-adjusted partial correlation analysis were conducted when explore the relationship between T, SHBG, LH, FSH and total score of IPSS, score of Storage symptoms, score of Voiding symptoms. Results:T were negative related to age(γ=-0.138, P <0.001). SHBG,LH,FSH was positively related to age (correspondingγ, P value:γ=0.263, P<0.001;γ=0.275, P <0.001;γ=0.440,P<0.001). Serum level of T,LH,FSH was not significant related to total score of IPSS, score of Storage symptoms, score of Voiding symptoms. Serum level of LH,FSH were significant related to score of Storage symptoms (correspondingγ, Pvalue:γ=0.067, P=0.003;γ=0.05, P=0.001). SHBG was significant related to total score of IPSS, score of Storage symptoms (correspondingγ, P value:Y =0.063, P=0.006;γ=0.089, P<0.001). However, only the relationship between SHBG and score of Storage symptoms was significant after adjusting age(γ=0.061, P=0.008).Conclusion:In our study, serum levels of sex hormones are generally not significant directly related to low urological symptoms in men after adjusting for age. The generation of LUTS is complex and probably includes factors other than levels of sex hormones.
