Objective:To study the correlation between benign prostatic hyperplasia with lower urinary tract symptoms and erectile dysfunction (ED).Methods:96 male patients who were diagnosed as BPH in our hospital during January 2007 to june 2009 were recruited. According to age, they were devided into three groups:≤65yrs (n=20),65-75yrs (n=51)and≥75yrs (n=25).All patients'medical record were collected, including age, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) etc. SPSS 13.0 software were used to analyze the 96 patients'data.Results:1. The morbidity rate of ED was 67.71% for all 96 patients.2. There were 50.00%,66.67% and 84.00% for each group of age:≤65yrs,65-75yrs and≥75yrs respectively. The morbidity rate of ED was related to the age.3. There were 45.00%,67.53%,85.19%for mild LUTS, moderate LUTS and severe LUTS respectively. The morbidity rate of ED was related to the degree of LUTS.4. There was negative correlation between age and IIEF-5 (r=-0.688, P<0.001), negative correlation between age and IPSS (r=-0.688, P<0.001), negative correlation between IPSS and IIEF-5 (r=-0.686, P<0.001), After correcting for age, there was also correlation between IPSS and IIEF-5 (r=-0.563, P<0.001).Conclusion:There was moderate negative correlation among age, IPSS and ED, so age and LUTS were the impact factors to ED. LUTS was the independent risk factor to ED.
