Cedrus deodara(Roxb.)Loud belongs to the Cedrus Trew of Pinus Pinaceae. The genus includes Cdeodara, C.atlantica,C.libani and C.brevifolia. It is as an effectual herbal drug for expelling wind, removing dampness, destroying parasites and relieving itching in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In recent years, Lignans of this genus were found to have significant anti-tumor activity, which have attracted the most attention. In order to discover more pharmacological active ingredients and develop sufficiently the natural resources of Cedrus Trew.First of all, this thesis summarized the domestic and foreign research results and reviewed on the resources, chemical constituents and pharmacological activities about Cedrus Trew. Secondly, we made systemic photochemical studies on the pine needles of Cedrus deodara.20 compounds were isolated from the 95% EtOH extract by means of silica gel and sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, recrystallization etc.The structures were elucidated through spectroscopic analysis and in combination with comparison to the literature data. The 15 compounds were identified as 9-hydroxy dodecanoic acid(1), ethyl laurate(2), ethyl stearate(3),10-nonacosanol(4), dibutyl phthalate(5), phthalic acid bis-(2-ethylhexyl) ester(6),β-sitosterol(7),3β-hydroxy-oleanolic acid methyl ester(8), protocatechuic acid(9), shikimic acid(10),methylconiferin (11), ferulic acidβ-D-glucoside(12),(E)-1-O-p-coumaroyl-a-D-glucopyranoside(13),5-p-trans-coumaroylguinic acid(14) and (+)-(6S,9R)-9-O-β-D-glucopyranosyloxy-6-hydroxy-3-oxo-a-ionol(15).(E)-1-O-p-coumaroyl-a-D-glucopyranoside of which is a new compoun-d along with the fourteen known compounds, all of which were obtained from this plant for the first time. Finally, the method for content determination of Shikimic acid by HPLC was established and the content of Shikimic acid was detected in the seven coniferous plants. The results showed that Shikimic acid content was detected the highest in pine needle of Cedrus deodara(3.93%) more than in pine needle of Picea crassifolia Kom.(2.86%), Pinus tabulaeformis Carr.(1.87%), Pinus massoniana Lamb.(1.75%), Sabina centrasiatica Kom.(0.93%), Platycladus orientalis(Linn.)(0.38%) and Sabina chinensis (Linn.) Ant. (0.38%), as well as more than in branches of Cedrus deodara(1.66%), Picea crassifolia Kom.(0.44%), Pinus massoniana Lamb.(0.17%), Pinustabulaeformis Carr.(0.14%).But it was not detected in branches of Platycladus orientalis(Linn.), Sabina centrasiatica Kom and Sabina chinensis (Linn.) Ant.The results of the investigation were expected to enrich the data base of Cedrus Trew, to afford the scientific basis of pharmacology, chemotaxonomy and screening of this genus, and to help the utilization of the Chinese natural resources as well as the research of Chinese herbal modernization.
