Cedrus deodara has many biology activities such as relieving spasm and pain,anti-bacterial,anti-inflammatory,anti-cancer,anti-virus etc. It mainly contains volatile compounds and non-volatile compounds including terpene, lignan, flavonoid, fatty acid, etc.Based on the well anti-cancer activity exhibited by the lignans and their mixture extracted from the heartwood of Cedrus deodara, in order to explore the abundant plant resource effectively, this paper reviewed on the lignans isolated from nature plants, which have several types and many biology activities such as anti-bacterial,anti-inflammatory,anti-cancer,anti-oxidation etc; we made systemic photochemical studies on the dichloromethane extraction of the pine needle of Cedrus deodara.19 compounds were isolated by means of silica gel and sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, recrystallization, etc. The structures were elucidated through spectroscopic analysis (1H-NMR,13C-NMR, DEPT) and in combination with comparison to the literature data.9 compounds were identified as stigmasterol (1), oleanolic acid (2), parahydroxybenzaldehyde (3),β-sitosterol (4), syringaresinol (5), daucosterol (6), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (7), gallicin (8)and gallic acid (9), including lignan, phenolic acid, terpene and steride.Based on the certain content of shikimic acid separated from the pine needle of Cedrus deodara and shikimic acid is the important material for the synthesis of anti-avian influenza virus drug Tamiflu, in order to exploit new plant resource for shikimic acid, this thesis reviewed on shikimic acid including its plant resource, extraction and separation and extensive biological activities; the method for content determination of shikimic acid by HPLC was established and the content of Shikimic acid in different acquisition period was detected. The results showed that shikimic acid content was detected the highest in May (4.11%), and the best acquisition period is March to June. The extracting process of shikimic acid from pine needles of Cedrus deodara was optimized by orthogonal experiment. The optimal extracting process was adding 20 times of water, soaking 0.5 h, reflux 2 h.The results of the investigation were expected to enrich the data base of Cedrus Trew, to help the utilization of the Chinese natural resources as well as the research of Chinese herbal modernization and to afford the scientific basis of the further study on the exploitation, extraction process of shikimic acid.
