Objective:To investigate the relationship between the G894T polymorphism of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene and high salt diet with essential hyp-ertension(EH)in Dongxiang minority population. Methods:In this study, G894Tgenotypes in 349 EH patients (EH group) and 214 normotensive control subjects (NT group) from Dongxiang minority population in LinXa GanSu province were detected by the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method; each of cholesterol, triglyceride, fasting blood glucose, amount of salt intake, the leveal of NOx and body mass index(BMI) was investigated simultaneously. Frequencies of genotypes,T allele and enumeration date were compared withχ2 test, rank test and the test of trend were used to analyze interation between the mutation of G→T and salinity on the grading of hypertension.Results:(1) eNOS gene G894T polymorphism was in line with the Hardy-Weinberg banlanced law,The frequencies of GT+TT genotypes and T allele in EH were higher than that in NT respectively(P=0.036,P=0.008);SBP,DBP,MBP in hypertensive patients with T allele of eNOS gene G894T polymorphism were higher than which of GG genotype respectively(P=0.016,P=0.022,P=0.019);(2) In EH group, the level of NOx was lower in GT+TT genotypes than in GG genotype(P=0.013);the amount of salinity in EH were significantly higher than that in NT (P=0.003); (3)In EH group, the grading of hypertension were affected partial by the mutation of T allele;but they were affected by salinity positively. Conclusions:eNOS gene exon7th G894T polymorphism is assoc-iated with EH in Dongxiang minority population;T allele may be involved in the aetiology of EH by reducing NO release of endothelium. The grading of hypertension were affected partial by T allele, but the relation was uncertian. High salt diet affected the grading of hypertension positively and played an important role in the prevalence and the grad-ing of EH.
