Objective:To explore the relationship between expression of MMP-2,9 and TIMP-1, 2 and biological characteristics in uterine cervical squamous cell carcinoma. Methods:The expression of MMP-2, MMP-9 and TIMP-1, TIMP-2 were detected by immunohistochemical MaxvisionTM methods in 46 cases of uterine cervical squamous cell carcinoma,34 cases of CINâ…¢, and 20 cases of normal cervical epithelium (NCE). The correlation between the expression MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1, TIMP-2 and clinical stages, pathological types, lymph node metastases in uterine cervical squamous cell carcinoma were analyzed. Results:The positive rates of MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 were 78.3%, 71.7%,54.3%and 60.9% in uterine cervical squamous cell carcinoma,50.0%,70.6%, 73.5% and 50.0% in CINâ…¢,25%,25%,20% and 20% in normal cervical epithelium, respectively. The positive rates of MMP-2 were significant differences between the carcinomas and CINâ…¢, NCE, respectively (P<0.001); The positive rates of MMP-9 were significant differences between the NCE and carcinomas, CINâ…¢, respectively (P<0.01); The positive rates of TIMP-1,2 were significant differences between the NCE and carcinomas, CINâ…¢, respectively (P<0.01). The positive rates of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were higher in lymph node metastasis than that in no lymph node metastasis (P<0.05, P<0.01), but TIMP-2 was lower in lymph node metastasis than that in no lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). There were negative correlation between the expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1, MMP-2 and TIMP-2 (rs=-0.381, p<0.01; rs=-0.315, p<0.05) in uterine cervical squamous cell carcinoma.Conclusion:1. The higher expression rates of MMP-2,9 and relative lower expression rates of TIMP-1,2 were closely correlated with infiltration and metastasis in uterine cervical squamous cell carcinoma.2. Combined examination of MMP-2,9 and TIMP-1,2 is an important parameter for evaluating the prognosis in patients with cervical carcinoma.
