| The whole herb of Senecio scandens Buch-Ham is a traditional medicine used as a clearing Heat and eliminating toxin, killing worms and improving eyesight for the treatment of all relative diseases. The plant is widely distributed in all districts of China.From the ethanol extract of the whole herb of Senecio scandens Buch-Ham, 18 compounds were isolated by chromatography and recrystallization. On the basis of spectroscopic analysis (UV, IR, NMR, MS, CD) and physicochemical characters, 18 compounds of them were identified,and they are (1)ferulic acid, (2)luteolin, (3)Syringarenol, (4)4-Hydroxybenzoic acid, (5)lirioresinol-A, (6)syringaldehyde, (7)sinapic acid, (8)vanillicacid,(9)vanillin,(10)daucosterol,(11)β-sitosterol,(12)3,4-dihydroxyphenylethylalcohol,(13)Protocatechuic acid ethyl ester, (14)1,2-dihydroxybenzene, (15)caruilignan D, (16) coniferin, (17) tortoside A, (18)secroisolariciresinol. (2)is Flavonoid,(10),(11)is Nonsteroidal compounds,(3),(5),(15),(17),(18)is Lignanoids compounds, (1),(4),(6),(7),(8),(9),(12),(13),(14),(16)is Phenolic acids and esters compounds.Compound (2)luteolin,(3)Syringarenol,(6)syringaldehyde,(7)sinapic acid,(15) caruilignan D were obtained from this genus for the first time.
