Humulus scandens (Lour.) Merr. is the plant of family Moraceae and genus of Humulus, and is commonly known as Lala seedling. The whole plant of H.scandens can be used as traditional Chinese medicine. And the H.scandens have a variety of pharmacological effects, such as, anti-bacterial, anti-tuberculosis, diarrhea treatment and prevention of osteoporosis etc. The H.scandens shade with moisture, vitality, rapid propagation and widely distributed. The H.scandens is mainly grown in the temperate zone and subtropics of the northern hemisphere. In our country, in addition to Xinjiang and Qinghai Province, Humulus scandens is distributed in Gansu, Shanxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Northeast, North China, South-central and Southwest etc. The whole plant of H.scandens can be used as traditional Chinese medicine. And the H.scandens have a variety of pharmacological effects, such as, anti-bacterial, anti-tuberculosis, diarrhea treatment and prevention of osteoporosis and so on.This paper summarizes the two aspects of the research status of H.scandens on pharmacological effects and the chemical composition in domestic and international recent years, and extract, isolate, active studies on the dry stems and leaves of H.scandens. Yet there are reports on the free radical scavenging activity and Tyrosinase inhibitory activity of H.scandens in the literature. In this experiment, the DPPH radical scavenging activity and Tyrosinase inhibitory activity are used as a guide, and the systemic separation has been carried out on the active extract components of humulus. The silica gel column chromatography, ODS reversed phase column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC and other separation methods were used to isolate the ethyl acetate extract of the H.scandens, and17compounds were isolated. And then the structure of the10compounds were indentified by physical properties and spectroscopic datas. In this paper, all the different fraction of the extracts, components and compounds were tested by the DPPH radical scavenging activity and Tyrosinase inhibitory activity. Experimental results show that, H.scandens extract has strong DPPH radical scavenging activity and tyrosinase inhibitory activity. The IC50value of DPPH radical scavenging activity of compounds4is0.01μg/mL, which is less than the IC50value of vitamin C reference. This result can provide scientific evidence for the development of anti-oxidant and anti-aging aspects of the drugs.
