ObjectiveTo detect the expression and the clinical significance of the Lewis y antigen and integrinα5,β1 in serous and mucinous ovarian tumors, then to evaluate the correlation between them.MethodsImmunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of Lewis y antigen and integrinα5,β1 in 60 cases of serous and mucinous ovarian malignant tumors (including 21 cases of high,21 cases of middle and 18 cases of low differentiation),20 cases of borderline ovary tumor,20 cases of benign ovary tumor and 10 cases of normal ovarian tissues. The relationship between Lewis y antigen and integrinα5,β1, between them and biologic characteristics was analyzed. Immunofluorescence double labeling method was also used to detect the correlation between Lewis y antigen and integrinα5,β1.ResultsLewis y was mainly expressed in ovarian cancer (88.33%), the positive rate was obviously higher than borderline (60.00%, P< 0.05), benign ovarian tumors (35.00%, P< 0.01) and normal ovarian tissues (0, P< 0.01). Its positive rate were not assoiatced with clinicopathologic characteristics; The integrinα5,β1 were also mainly expressed in ovarian cancer (85.00%,81.67%), their positive rates were all obviously higher than benign ovarian tumors (60.00%,55.00%; P all< 0.05) and normal ovarian tissues (40.00%,30.00%; P all< 0.01). Increased expression of integrinα5,β1 correlated with higher clinic stage(P< 0.05), but were not associated with histological types, differentiation degree and lymphatic metastasis (P> 0.05). The expression intensity of Lewis y and integrinα5,β1 was significantly with clinical stage and differentiation degree (P all< 0.05) in ovarian cancer; Positive significant correlation between Lewis y antigen and integrinα5,β1 were observed in ovarian cancer tissues.ConclusionsClosely correlation between Lewis y, integrinα5,β1 and ovarian cancer were observed. Lewis y can influence the biological behavior of tumor cell as an important composition of integrinα5 andβ1 by some signal pathway, such as promoting cell adhesion and migration, and this study provide theories evidence for ovarian cancer biological treatment.
