| Objective To investigate the expression and correlation of TGF-β1, T-bet and GATA-3 in the bronchial mucosa in patients with asthma. To study the role of cytokines in the pathogenesis of asthma and the interaction of these cytokines. Methods 20 patients with asthma were chosen from the pulmonary department of The Second Hospital of Lanzhou University during 2009.5-2009.12 as subjects,10 patients without asthma were chosen from the Cardiothoracic Surgery department of The Second Hospital of Lanzhou University during 2009.5-2009.12 as control group. The expression of TGF-β1, T-bet and GATA-3 in the bronchial mucosa from patients with asthma and control subjects were assessed by immunohistochemistry. Results The expression of TGF-β1 and GATA-3 were significantly increased in asthma group compared to control subjects(p<0.01); the expression of T-bet was significantly decreased in asthma group compared to control subjects(p<0.01); the ratio of T-bet/GATA-3 was significantly decreased in asthma group compared to control subjects(p<0.05). The level of TGF-β1 had shown a significant positive correlation with GATA-3 but negative correlation with T-bet and T-bet/GATA-3 ratio. Conclusion The expression of T-bet and GATA-3 in the bronchial mucosa in patients with asthma, which could regulate the differentiation of ThO cells, could be influenced by TGF-β1, but the mechanism still needs efforts. |
