Background:The relation between hypertension and target-organ damage is already very apparent. The increase of blood pressure will cause artery wall elasticity of progressive damage, stiffness, the end result is increased arterial wall pressure pulsations load increasing, related endothelial function is impaired, precipitating atherosclerosis, this is exactly increase vasculopathy (including coronary artery) of the severity of reason. Ambulatory arterial stiffness index (AASI) was calculated from 24h ABPM data has been proposed as a new marker of arterial stiffness, which estimating arterial stiffness. One minus the slope of the linear regression of systolic to diastolic ambulatory pressure during 24 h. Peripheral arterial sclerosis can cause SBP rising rate exceeds DBP or causing SBP rise and DBP drop, this one will reduce the slope of the numerical, and AASI will heighten. This is arterial stiffness index rise reflects arterial stiffness main theoretical basis. Objective:To assess the relationship between Ambulatory Arterial Stiffness Index(AASI) and the severity of coronary artery stenosis. Methods:Two hundred and fifty patients (pts) were included. All pts ( mean age57.70±10.26 years,168 males and 82 females ) were underwent coronary angiography. Ambulatory Arterial Stiffness Index was measured before coronary angiography. The severity of coronary artery stenosis was evaluated by the number of impaired arteries and Gensini score. Results:Ambulatory Arterial Stiffness Index in pts with coronary heart disease (CHD) in twenty - four hour, day and night were all significantly higher than that in normal subjects. Logistic multivariate analysis indicated that Ambulatory Arterial Stiffness Index was closely related to the severity of coronary artery stenosis. And the night AASI was the best predictor for the severity of coronary artery stenosis. Conclusion:AASI was independent risk factors of the severity of coronary artery stenosis, AASI was closely related to the severity of coronary artery stenosis.
