This study was carried out in North China, where is vitamin D highly-deficient area, studies have shown that over 90% population in the area has vitamin D deficiency. If people in the rapid development period suffer from vitamin D deficiency, it will contribute to the descent of calcium absorption rate and storage rate, which will have a big impact on peak bone mass. When the blood calcium concentration decreases, the active type of vitamin D.1.25-(OH) 2D3,will mobilize calcium and phosphorus in bone to release into blood in order to maintain normal blood calcium concentration, and result in increasing bone metabolic rate, accelerating bone mass loss, which can contribute to poor bone mineralization of people who are in the growth and development period and even diseases. Oat drinks is a liquid vegetality food which are produced using oat as the raw materials in recent years, and is a good substrate to strengthen various vitamins and minerals. The goal of complementing various minerals and vitamins can be achieved by drinking oat drinks which are fortified by compound nutrients. Objectives:To improve children growth and development situation in China by drinking supplementary test of oat drinks fortified by Ca and vitamin D for a year. Methods:This is an one-year randomized, controlled, intervention study. Selected 6-8 year-old primary school students who are in first or second grade in Shunyi District. Beijing in September 2009. All subjects were divided into two groups, evenly composed of men and women; Intervention group and control group were from the same school but different classes, they have similar social and economic background. The intervention group drank250ml of oat drinks every morning; the control group maintained their daily diet. Researched the physical activity and dietary situation before and after intervention and excluded the impact of physical development factors. After intervention, the effects of oat drinks with combined nutrients by various indicators such as height, bone density, biochemical changes of the two groups to determine the nutrients of oat drinks were judged. Results:Before the intervention, there were no statistical significance between the height, sitting height, knee height, body weight and body mass index of boys and girls in the intervention group and control group (P>0.05). After the intervention, the height, sitting height and knee height of boys and girls in the intervention group were slightly higher than the control group, the differences had no statistical significance (P>0.05); the weight of boys and girls in the intervention group was higher than the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05); there were no statistical significance between body mass index of boys and girls in the intervention group and control group (P>0.05), they are within the normal range. Before the intervention, there were no statistical significance between 25-(OH)D levels and osteocalcin levels of boys and girls in the intervention group and control group (P>0.05), after the intervention,25-(OH) D levels and osteocalcin levels of boys and girls in the intervention group were slightly higher than the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Before and after the intervention, there were no statistical significance between TRACP,calcium in urine and calcium/ creatinine ratio of boys and girls in the intervention group and control group (P>0.05).Before the intervention, there were no statistical significance between bone mineral content, bone area and bone density of boys and girls in the intervention group and control group (P>0.05). After the intervention, crura. femur and greater trochanter bone content of boys in the intervention group was significantly higher than control group, upper limbs and lumbar spine 2-4 bone mineral density of girls in the intervention group was significantly higher than control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05); the total area of the femur of boys in intervention group was significantly higher than control group, lumbar spine 2-4 bone area of girls in the intervention group was significantly higher than control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05); boys in the intervention group crura and greater trochanter bone density of boys were significantly higher than control group, upper limbs bone density of girls in the intervention group was significantly higher than control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion:1. Supplement of oat drinks fortified with calcium and vitamin D has the trend of promoting the growth of children's height, sitting height and knee height and body weight of children to increase.2. Supplement of oat drinks fortified with calcium and vitamin D has the promoting effects on children's blood 25-(OH)D and osteocalcin levels.3. Supplement of oat drinks fortified with calcium and vitamin D has the promoting effects on children's bone mass, bone area and bone mineral density.
