[Background] Nowadays metastasis suppressor genes such as BRMS1, KISS1 and CD82 are one of the hot research fields for tumor's clinical investingation. Many studies have shown that they are closely related with many tumors' invasion and metastasis both internal and abroad. Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors and it is also a kind of polygeenic disease. The changes of expressions of genes in the course of invasion, infiltration and metastasis of gastric cancer have attracted more and more attention in recent years.[Objective] By detecting the expressions of BRMS1, KISS1 and CD82 mRNA in the gastric carcinoma and normal paracarcinoma gastric tissue, to investigate the effect of them on the invasion and metastasis of gastric cancer and the relationship between them and biological behavior of gastric cancer; further to improve the clinical research of metastasis suppressor gene, especially BRMS1, which provides scientific basis for relevant clinical treatment and prevention of the metastasis of gastric cancer.[Methods] The expressions of BRMS 1, KISS1 and CD82 mRNA in the primary gastric carcinoma and normal paracarcinoma tissue of 44 cases which had complete case history datas were detected by hemi quantitative RT-PCR. The clinical pathology indexs as histotype, invasion depth, the regional lymph nodes and/or distant metastasis were also taken into considerations at the same time.【Results】Among the 44 cases, the expressions of BRMS 1, KISS1 and CD82 mRNA in normal paracarcinoma tissue were 35 (79.5%),19 (43.2%) and 27 (61.4%) respectively. When it came to the gastric carcinoma tissue, however, the figures changed to 14 (31.8%), 8 (18.2%) and 20 (45.5%). The expressions of BRMS1 and KISS1 in gastric carcinoma tissue were lower than those in normal paracarcinoma tissue(P<0.01;P<0.05); the expres- sion of CD82 in gastric carcinoma tissue had no obvious difference compared normal paracarcinoma (P>0.05), and the expression of CD82 in gastric carcinoma tissue wasn't related with patients' sex, age, differentiated degree, invasion depth and lymph node spreading of tumor tissue. The expression of BRMS1 was closely related with the differentiated degree, invasion depth and lymph nodes metastasis of tumor tissue. The expression of BRMS1 decreased greatly when the differentiated degree reduced, or the invasion depth and lymph nodes metastasis to increased(P<0.05;P<0.05;P<0.05). The expression of KISS1 was correlated with the invasion depth, lymph nodes metastasis and Borrmann type of tumour tissue. When the invasion depth and lymph nodes metastasis and Borrmann type increased, the expression of KISS1 decreased (P<0.05;P<0.01;P<0.05). The expression of BRMS1 was higher than those of KISS1, CD82 in normal para-carcinoma tissue.【Conclusions】1. The expressions of tumor metastasis suppressor genes such as BRMS1, KISS1, CD82 mRNA can be detected in gastric carcinoma and normal paracarcinoma tissue through RT-PCR method.2. The expressions of BRMS1 mRNA or KISS1 mRNA in the primary gastric carcinoma and normal paracarcinoma tissue have remarkable differences. Therefore, they may be identified as one of the tumor markers to diagnose gastric pathological changes, but the metastasis suppressor effect of CD82 on gastric carcinoma is uncertain.3. The expression of BRMS1 is closely related with the differentiated degree, invasion depth and lymph nodes metastasis of tumor tissue, And the expression of KISS1 is correlated with the invasion depth, lymph nodes metastasis and Borrmann type of tumor tissue. So they can be identified as reference criteria which reflect invasion and metastatic potential of gastric cancer.4. The expression of BRMS1 is higher than that of KISS 1 in normal para-carcinoma tissue, it is of great significance to detect these two genes to reflect the invasion and metastatic potential of gastric cancer.
