Objetive: To evaluate the relation between EEG and prognosis of post stroke epilepsy, and analyze part and nature of stroke, interval between stroke and seizure, seizure disorder type and other correlation factor. Methods: We collect post stroke epilepsy patients in neurology of the first hospital of Shanxi medical university between October 2009 to December 2010. We record every patient's sex, age, part and nature of stroke, interval between stroke and seizure, epileptic seizure type. Then we analyze these data. Let patients to accept electroencephalogram (EEG) examination three times within one week according to the illness conditions after first seizure, group separately by following conditions according to the EEG test results:(1) According to whether have periodic epileptiform discharges, divided patients into PEDs group and another group with abnormal EEG but no PEDs;(2) According to whether be bilateral synchrony discharge, divided patients into bilateral synchrony discharge group and another group with side hemisphere or focal anomalies and diffuse abnormalities. Give patients standard stroke and epilepsy treatment,follow-up them for three months. Draw up that prognosis is better if patients no seizure in three months and Modified Rankin Scale score does not exceed 3 points, prognosis is bad if patients seizure in three months or Modified Rankin Scale score exceed 3 points. Results: Collected 46 post stroke epilepsy patients totally, 2 patients are lost follow-up,3 patients'EEG are normal. There are 31 brain infarction patients and accounted for 67.39%, 14 cerebral hemorrhage patients and accounted for 32.61%. There are 33 cases their stroke part are located in the cortex and subcortical 13 cases, accounted for 71.74% and 28.26% separately. Their first epilepsy seizures distribute in three weeks to 2 years after stroke, average to 10.75 months. Group comparison: (1)Poor prognosis patients accounted for 78.57 % in 14 patients of PEDs group. PEDs group is significantly higher than no PEDs group, it have statistical significance (P < 0.05); (2)Difference between bilateral synchrony discharge group and control group is no statistically significant. (P>0.05).Conclusion: (1) Post stroke epilepsy is common in old people,Ischemic stroke is more than hemorrhagic stroke. High-incidenceseason is between 6-12 months. Simply partial seizure accounted for most. (2) EEG that appear periodic epileptiform discharges is a important symbol of poor prognosis in patients.(3) Post stroke epilepsy patients with EEGs that are bilateral synchrony discharge are not significantly different with no bilateral synchrony discharge patients in statistics.
