Background:nasopharyngeal carcinoma is the most common one of malignant tumor in head and neck. According to WHO statistics,80% of them happened in my country. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has already known to have urging of activity one of the afferent and born factors most currently, can help the epidermal cell inside the blood vessel to propagate, raise afferent transparence, provide the radicle guilder the condition for the growth, migration of epidermal cell inside the blood vessel, and have the important action that repress the tumor cell. Epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) has altitude close with VEGF, two especially difference wedge bonding after, urge to deliver cell division semaphore and spark cell proliferation, EGFR voices an abnormality, can make the normal cell convert into tumor cell, and raise the hit and transfer capability of tumor. In this study, with immunohistochemical technology, we tested the expression of VEGF and EGFR in the 57 cases of NPC, in the 27 cases of biopsy specimens were collected from patients with chronic nasopharyngitis who had been diagnosed definitely by HE stain in the same time, and analyzed the relationship between the expression in them and the clinical information.Material and Method:From 2009 to 2010,57 cases of nasopharynx biopsy specimens were collected from patients who came to our hospital for treatment first, and didn't have other therapy before, and their diagnosis were nasopharyngeal carcinoma.The patients were 44 male patients and 13 female patients, with age ranged from 17 to 74 years old. According to UICC/AJCC classification of 2002,27 cases were in T1 stage,17T2,8T3, 5 T4; 16 cases in NO stage,20 in Nl stage,19 in N2 stage,2 in N3 stage; stage I was 13 cases, stage II was 13 cases, stage III was 19cases, stage IV was 12 cases. We also obtained 27nasopharynx biopsy specimens from patients, who were suffered from nasopharyngeal inflammation. All tissue samples were fixed with 10% formaldehyde solution, then embedded in paraffin,2micrometre thick sections were prepared for examining the expression VEGF and EGFR by Envision TM immunohistochemistry. All the figures were analyzed statistically with SPSS 13.0 software in computer.Result:1. Expression of VEGF and EGFR in nasopharyngeal carcinoma is Positive.2. There is significant relationship between VEGF and N stage as well as clinical stage.No relationship between VEGF and sex, age as well as pathological classification.3. There are significant relationship between EGFR and N stage. No relationship between VEGF and sex, age, pathological classification as well as clinical stage.4. The expression of EGFR shows a significant positive correlation with the expression of VEGF. Conclusion:1. The result suggests that expression of VEGF and EGFR in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells are positive.2. The expression of VEGF has relationship with lymph nodes metastasis and clinical stage, but do not have relationship with sex. age and pathological classification.3. The expression of EGFR has relationship with lymph nodes metastasis, but do not have relationship with sex,age. pathological classification and clinical stage.4. EGFR has positive correlation with VEGF.
