Clematis henryi Oliv. is a species from genus Clemati Ranunculaceae. Its root or leaf is traditionally used for treating. It is distributed in middle steam or downstream of Changjiang river drainage basin, and the province at the southern side if Changjiang river. It has the effects of clearing away heat, detoxicating, promoting the flow of qi to relieve pain. Pharmacology research indicated that it can obviously relieve pain and have sedation effects. At present, there are no chemical composition research about Clematis henryi Oliv. Through the research on the chemical constituents of it we can provide theory evidence for its chemical categorization at one side, and we can establish theory foundation to elucidate its pharmacological action, find the active component at the other side. Then we can develop and utilize Clematis henryi Oliv. in western hunan better and more reasonable. This topic did chemical composition research about Clematis henryi Oliv. for the first time. We extracted the coarse powder of medical material by 70% EtOH and condensed it, then extracted by P.E.,CHCl3,EtOAc. Isolated and purified 7 compouds from each part by silica gel column many times and recrystallization. On the basis of UV,IN,NMR spectroscopic analysis methods and chemical methods,6 compounds were identified as known compounds, namely,β-sitosterol (Ⅰ),Daucosterol (Ⅱ),manicol (Ⅲ),ursolic acid (Ⅳ),1,8-dihydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyl-xanthone (Ⅴ),o-tricosanic acid (Ⅵ). This six compounds were obtained from Clematis henryi Oliv. for the first time.
