Objective:To study the effect of bFGF and collagen sponge on rabbits skin wound healing with exposed tibia. To explore the mechanisms of bFGF and collagen sponge promoting on rabbits skin wound healing. try to find a new way to treat skin wound with exposed bone. Methods: 24 Japanese white rabbits, male or female, were divided into A, B,C three groups according to the different treatment methods, n = 8. A long 1.5cm and wide 1cm skin wound was made in each rabbit's front anteromedial tibia, between the tibial tubercle and tibial plateau.Experimental group A of wounds were treated with bFGF, covered collagen sponge and packed with gauze. Group B of wounds were covered with collagen sponge and packed with gauze.Group C of wounds were treated with the same dose of 0.9% saline solution and packed with gauze. Each wound was dressed one time every three days ,until the skin wound was healed completely.when wound was dressed ,we took photographs by a digital camera, measured the size of skin wound and calculated the rate of wound contraction. When skin wound was healed, we cut wound tissue and make specimens. Each specimen was stained in HE coloring. We observed and compared microscope structure under light microscope. Results: All animals survived until skin wound healing. The average healing time of group A wounds was 25.12±1.46 days. It was 30.50±1.69 days in group B. It was 33.38±1.77 days in group C . The average healing time of experimental group A was shorter than that of control group B and group C, and the results were significantly different (P< 0.01). Light microscope observation showed that the quality of the experimental group healed wound was much better than the control group, and collagen fibers of the experimental group was more order and uniform than that in the control group. Conclusion: We conclude that bFGF and collagen sponge significantly promote rabbits skin wound healing with exposed tibia and improve the quality of the healed wound.Significance: We need not surgery, for example, flap or muscle flap transplant. It is not expensive and can be applied in orthopedics and burn departments. We try to find an economical, convenient, non-surgical way for skin wound healing with exposed bone.
