Objective Whether statins could change adiponectin, leptin, thus improving insulin sensitivity or not. Methods 30 patients with type 2 diabetes meeting the conditions of this study were collected, Randomly divided into three groups ,two groups wre accepted 12 weeks of 10mg and 20mg atorvastatin treatment, the last one without atorvastatin for control group. Monitoring some common biochemical markers and adiponectin, leptin, insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) at the test beginning and the end,and serving the index changes in 3 groups. Results 10mg and 20mg atorvastatin could Significantly lower Fasting insulin,LDL-C,TG,HOMA-IR,leptin and increase adiponectin. Among the three groups overall value of the index changes were significantly different , There were significantly different between the control group and10mg,20mg groups, All the value of index changes were no significant differences except for the lowering LDL-C(P=0.014).Conclusions Low-dose atorvastatin for 12 weeks treatment could, to some extent, increase adiponectin lower leptin and improve insulin sensitivity in relatively low-risk early stage patients with T2DM.
