Objective: To determine whether the cholesterol ester transfer protein gene TaqIB polymorphism is associated with coronary disease and the lipid metabolism in type 2 diabetes. Methods: The allele frequency and genotype distribution of the cholesterol ester transfer protein gene TaqIB polymorphism were determined by the means of polymerase chain reaction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) methods in the group of normal control (47 men, 45 women, mean age 62.74±6.22 years ),simple diabetes (33 men, 38 women, mean age 61.76±6.07 years) and diabtic CHD(40 men ,43 women, mean age 64.3±6.42 years ).Results: There were no differernces of B1 and B2 alleles frequencies of the cholesterol ester transfer protein gene TaqIB polymorphism in three groups. The group of diabetic CHD had a lower frequency of B2B2 genotype than those of normal control (12.0% Vs 22.8%, p=0.026,OR=0.39, 95%CI: 0.13-0.89) and simple diabetes(12.0% Vs 26.8%, p=0.0177,OR=0.371, 95%CI: 0.16-0.84). The concentration of high density lipoprotein in the genotype B2B2 was high compared with that of other two genotypes in three groups analyzed by ANVOA, p<0.001.The genotype B2B2 was correlated with higher concentration of high density lipoprotein than analyzed by binary Logistic regression, even if controlling for smoking and sex analyzed by partial corralation,r=0.4851, p<0.001.Conclusion: The patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus with the genotype B2B2 produced by the cholesterol ester transfer protein gene TaqIB polymorphism were less susceptible to coronary disease than the patient with genotype B1B1,and associated with the concentration of high density lipoprotein.
