Objective: To explore the hemodynamic changes of middle cerebral artery (MCA ) in healthy adults and cerebral infarction after breath-holiding.Methods: Seventy-four cerebral infarction and Sixty -two healthy adults from. Mar.2010 to Dec.2010.Among in this study. After the subjects under went transcranial color Dopp ler (TCD) , the breath-holding test was performed and Doppler spectra of MCA were recorded. The MCA hemodynamic parameters were measured before and after breath-holding test and breath-holding index (BHI) was caculated. Results:â‘ There was no significant difference between breath-holding time and BHI in male and female groups.BHI was negatively correlated to age ( r = - 0.30) .â‘¡The MCA hemodynamic parameters including systolic peak velocity (Vmax) , end distolic velocity (Vm in) , mean velocity (Vmean) ,,pulsatility index(PI) and resistance index (RI) were significantly decreased after breath-holding test (P < 0.05) .Conclusion: The MCA velocity and blood flow were increased and resistance was decreased after breath-holding in our study. BHI can reflect the cerebrovascular dilation and reserve ability. The outcome showed that dilating reaction respond to CO2 of cerebral vascular was lower in cerebral infarction than in the control group ( P < 0. 01) , and patients with cerebral infarction was lower significantly in damaged side than in undamaged side ( P < 0. 05) and in healthy adults group ( P < 0. 05) , there was no significant difference between cerebral infarction undamaged side and healthy adults group ( P > 0. 05) .
