Expressions And Significance Of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) Before And After Microwave Ablation In Patients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Objective:To study the expression changes and significance of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) which is expressed inside and outside the tumor, before and after microwave ablation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),Analysis the correlation of the expressive changes of VEGF and the recurrence,in order to provide an objective basis for the treatment and prognosis.Method:The patients who diagnosed with HCC, treated with microwave ablation,before and after treatment one month, separately biopsied the internal and the peripheral organization of the tumor,take immunohistochemistry, analysis the expression of VEGF,and compare the tumor size and the changes of AFP.Results:VEGF both express inside and outside the tumor before the microwave ablation therapy of HCC.The expression inside the tumor is 100%,outside is 36.4%(8/22),(P<0.05),and there is statistically significance.one month after the treatment,there is not expression of VEGF inside the tumor,6 cases expression of VEGF outside the tumor can be observed,the expressional rate is 27.3%(6/22),and there is statistically significance. A month before and after the microwave ablation therapy, for comparison of VEGF expression in tumor outside, there is no statistical significance.the difference between the tumor size and the changes of AFP before and after the treatment are not statistically significant.Conclusion:VEGF both expresses inside and outside the tumor before the microwave ablation treatment in the patients with HCC,and high expression inside the tumor may be associated with tumor angiogenesis,which is a factor in tumor growth and metastasis.There are VEGF expression outside the tumor,the essential cause is that probably there has been some tumorlet besides the tumor.One month after treatment, no VEGF expression outside the tumor, indicates that the microwave ablation has inactivated the tumor,there is still the expression of VEGF,which is presumed that the therapeutical effect of microwave ablation is limited inside the HCC lesions.However,it affected the tumor invasion and metastasis,Before and after treatment month,there are still certain proportion of VEGF expression outside the tumor, indicates that there are tumorlets in hepatic tissue outside the treated lesions,which is the important factor of recurrence after the microwave ablation.
