Both liver and pancreas plays an important role in the human metabolism: liver have an important role in substances metabolism such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids. the synthesis, decomposition, transformation, processing of digested nutrients almost all carried out in the liver ,and liver can also express enzymes that can neutralize toxicants; Pancreas is mainly responsible for the regulation of blood glucose balance. View of embryology, liver and pancreas progenitors develop from endoderm cells in the embryonic foregut. Shortly after their specification, liver and pancreas progenitors rapidly acquire markedly different cellular functions and regenerative capacities. These changes are elicited by inductive signals and genetic regulatory factors that are highly conserved in vertebrate evolution. Interest in the development and regeneration of the organs has been fueled by the intense need for hepatocytes and pancreaticβ-cells in the therapeutic treatment of liver failure and type I diabetes. Studies in diverse model organisms have revealed evolutionarily conserved inductive signals and transcription factor networks that elicit the differentiation of liver and pancreatic cells. This study aimed on observing after partial hepatectomy , whether the pancreasβcell can regeneration or not in rats. And provide useful information for further research and clinical application.Methods20 SD rats were randomly divided into experimental and control groups: which include 15 rats in experimental group and 5 rats in control groups. Rats were anesthesiaed by intraperitoneal injection with pentobarbital sodium. The abdominal cavity was opened through abdominal median. Experimental group establish SD rats model of liver regeneration by partial hepatectomy including the middle and left lateral part of liver, about 58% of liver weight. Control groups only to switch abdominal operation. After 2 weeks of regular feeding, perfused rat by 10% formalin and fixed specimens. Weighing of the liver and pancreas weight, and statistical analysis. After the liver and pancreatic tissue frozen sections, observing the phenomenon of the liver regeneration and pancreasβcell regeneration by immunol histochemistry.ResultsExperimental group and control group carried out the liver and pancreas weight were compared two sample t-test, p>0.05.There is no significant difference between experimental and control groups of different liver and pancreas weight. But there is different degrees of regeneration phenomenon in immunohistochemistry of liver and pancreas in the experimental group. Neither liver nor pancreas observe regeneration phenomenon in immunohistochemistry in the control group. That in the liver in the regeneration of active cases, regeneration of the pancreasβcell also appeared.ConclunsionBoth liver and pancreas plays an important role in the human metabolism. They not only link by the portal vein system in anatomy , but also develop from endoderm cells in the embryonic foregut. Removal of any part of the organ can affect the size and functions of another organ. This experiment demonstrated that afte partial hepatectomy , regeneration of the liver is in the case of active, inducible factor will also lead to the regeneration of pancreasβcell. It can provide useful information for further research and clinical application.
