Objective:To investigate the expression of PTEN and FHIT in bladder urothelial carcinoma and their clinical significance.Methods:Immunohistochemistry(S-P) were used to detect the expression of PTEN and FHIT in the 14 cases of normal bladder tissues and 37 cases of bladder urothelial carcinoma. Results:The expression of PTEN and FHIT was positive or strong positive in 14 normal bladder tissues. The positive rate of expression of PTEN in 37 bladder urothelial carcinoma tissue were 56.8%,9 positive and 12 strong positive. The positive rate of expression of FHIT were 48.6%,8 positive and 10 strong positive. With tumor stage and grade increasing, the expression of PTEN and FHIT were significantly reduced. An obverse correlation was found between PTEN and FHIT expression in bladder urothelial carcinoma(P<0.01).Conclusion:PTEN and FHIT may be a useful indicator to estimate the bladder urothelial carcinoma degree of malignancy and invasiveness. The detection of expression of PTEN and FHIT in the bladder urothelial carcinoma may be helpful to evaluate the degree of differentiation and diagnosis.
