Objective:Through discussing the theory of Ying Wei and the type of syndrome and prescription of Guizhi Tang, this paper aims to further clarify the theory of Ying Wei in Shanghanlun and the application of Guizhi Tang, which is the represent recipe of regulating nutrition qi and defensive qi, so that we can provid some references for increasing the clinical application of the theory of Ying Wei.Method:By widely collecting and sorting relative literature and basing on the theory of Ying Wei derived from Yellow Emperor's Internal Medicine, we made a explorative research on the source, circulation and the physiological function of Ying Wei. The theory of Ying Wei takes its root in Yellow Emperor's Internal Medicine, which says people get the qi from food, which enters the stomach. Thus spead qi to the lung and the five Zang and six Fu organs. The light qi is Ying, while the heavy is Wei. In the theory of the moving of Ying Wei, its believed that Ying Qi circulates in vessels and Wei Qi circulates outside the vessels, without stop, meet together after fifty times, yin and Yang connect with each other as a ring.We discussed the theory of Ying Wei through the physiological and pathological relationship between Ying Wei and six meridians, and the personaliztion of the theory of Ying Wei in the therapy and nursing of six meridian diseases, Keyunbo of Qing Dynasty says, as the leading recipe of Zhang zhongjing, it is total recipe in invigorating the Yin and Yang, regulating nutrition qi and defensive qi, and relaxing the muscle and dissipating sweat. Therefore, the theory of Ying Wei in Shanghanlun is further researched in the following aspects:the construction of Guizhi Tang, the effectiveness of Guizhi Tang and the modern research of Guizhi Tang.My tutor, Prof. Zhang Xikui, uses Guizhi Tang flexibly to cure a wide variety of diseases, either caused by exogenous pathogenic factors or internal injuries such as cnidosis, insomnia, menopausal syndrome and so on, which all result from the disharmony of nutrition qi with defensive qi.Conclusion:The theory of Ying Wei has already established basicly in Yellow Emperor's Internal Medicine, which presumes nutrition qi and defensive qi are transformed and generated from spleen and stomach belonging to middle warmer. Ying Qi, takes root in middle warmer, moving to upper warmer and drops to lower warmer along with Zong Qi from upper warmer, producing Ying Qi, which originally is turbid yin qi, coming from the lucid yang of upper warmer, so is thought to be lucidity pertaining to ying. Wei Qi, takes root in lower warmer, moving to middle warmer and rises to upper warmer, along with those whose middle warmer has yin and yang. Although Wei Qi originally is lucid yang qi, basing on turbid yin from lower warmer, yet those turbid is thought to be Wei Qi. The nutrition qi and defensive qi are transformed and generated from spleen and stomach belonging to middle warmer, furthermore, the circulating of defensive qi depends on the activating and stimulation from lower warmer kidney-YANG, so defensive qi is believed to come from lower warmer. Ying Wei is closely related to spleen and stomach belonging to middle warmer. Later medical experts futher expanded the connotation of the theory of Ying Wei. The theory of Ying Wei applies to many aspects including nosazontology, therapeutics and nursing. The theory of regulating nutrition qi and defensive qi in Shanghanlun is important in guiding clinical practice. The represent recipe, Guizhi Tang is widely used in clinic, receiving good effects. Accordingly, the topic has clinical significance in a sense.
