With the trend of economic globalization and China's access to WTO, our country is developing more comprehensive and more profound communication and cooperation with other countries on politics, culture, economy and law. As the mutual communication become more and more frequent, we need to borrow legislat experience and technology from foreign countries. On the other hand, we also need to introduce our legislation state to the world so as to bring China in line with the international legal system and further strengthen democracy and the legal system and boost the social economy. Therefore, the translation of legal document should become significant.Through contrastive research on both Chinese and English versions the thesis analyzed the features of C-E translation and some merits of the Patent Law of the PRC on lexical and syntactic aspects. The main body of thesis includes four chapters.Chapter 1 briefly introduces the background knowledge of the Patent Law of the PRC, the significance of implementing the law as well as the function of English version of the law on social development and practical English research.Chapter 2 talks about the prevailing translation criteria at home and abroad, and analyzes the adaptability to the legal English. Lastly translation criteria of legal English are put forward.Chapter 3, as one of the most important chapters, analyzes with the suitable examples in E-C translation materials the three features of legal English from three linguistic aspects—lexical, syntactic and stylistic ones.Chapter 4, as another important one, comments the merits of English version of the patent law from lexical and syntactic aspects according to the some features of legal English above mentioned. Besides, these some widespread translation techniques in solving lexical and syntactic problems of legal English translation also are introduced, which can set an example and evidence for the legal staff.
