In recent years, with the quality-oriented education promoted in a comprehensive manner, the Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education issued the revised College English Curriculum Requirements, in which many new requirements were set. For example, it was clearly stated that college English is not only a basic linguistic course, but also a quality-oriented course to widen horizon and learn the world culture. College English should be instrumental and humanistic. The individual differences of language learners have drawn more and more attention from educators and researchers. Different kinds of learner-centered teaching methods have been carried out in English classroom.Howard Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligence (MI) happens to hold the same view of respecting individual differences. MI theory proposes that human, including children and adults have at least eight intelligences (musical, logical-mathematical,bodily-kinesthetic,linguistic,spatial,interpersonal,intrapersonal and naturalistic intelligences), with some strong and some weak, which form the individual differences. So this thesis analyzes the individual indifferences of Chinese college English learners from the perspective of MI theory and moves on put forward some strategies of teaching and learning in light of MI theory. This thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter One introduces the background of the research and the significance of the research. In Chapter Two,the author introduces MI theory detailed. Some related studies and applications are also briefly introduced. Chapter Three is about the design of the research, including the objectives of the research, the participants, instruments of data collection and procedure. Chapter Four presents the data collected and discuss the results in term of MI theory. Based on the data and results, some suggestions on implanting the MI theory into college English teaching are offered. The Chapter Five is the concluding chapter, which summarizes the findings and recognizes the limitations of the study and suggests some further research.
